It’s Winter
Chores, Chores, Chores
These past few weekends have been filled with cabin chores, things that must be done while it’s nice outside. John was very busy. He painted the cricket Kevin made and installed. A cricket protects the vents from being wiped off the roof when the snow slumps. Everything with a motor got an oil change, motorcycles, 4wheeler, even the snowblower. We added trim to the windows and doors and roof. Weather was great and all went for a swim to cool off. Even me!
Still waiting for the Mat-Su silver salmon to arrive. Hopefully, we can catch some more fish.
July Weekend
Haven’t had much news to tell about lately. Plenty of cool and drizzle. But it brightened up over the weekend and we had a great time in the sun in Willow. I have a very red face to show for it. Our friends, Jenna and Geoff’s wedding is Friday and they have a load of family here from Ft. Lauderdale. Our lakefront was packed with a motorhome and a camper and a ski boat.
We had a great time on the tubes. John has a new nickname, Skip Rock, for the way he skips across the water when he slips off the tube.
There’s a 2nd YouTube video and more photos on flickr.
We’re keeping an eye on the fishing reports hoping to head to Kenai for a day of dipnetting. I think we’re allowed 65 salmon with our permit. That’s a lot of fish, if we can catch them.
Ahhh, Summer

Glorious summer finally arrived. Enjoyed morning coffee on the dock. Saturday afternoon brought a house full of people including some new Aussie friends from QLD. We all had a great time and lots of burgers and dogs. Geoff brought his boat later in the day and tubed until 11. There are a lot of red faces and shoulders and arms and…
Fathers’ Day it was just the three of us and we spent the day doing some chores. The wood shed is now stacked full, picnic table freshly painted, entry way clear of winter stuff and so on.
Three Day Weekend
It was very nice to be out of town for a few days. Weather was cool, cloudy with occasional sprinkles and occasional hot sun just to tease us. So, not much boating but plenty of mud for the dirt bikes and 4-wheeler.
Friends came and went all weekend. Yesterday we had a great surprise when the Olsons, young and old, spent the afternoon. Ernie and Verna are here from Minnesota for Eric’s graduation. Mark and kids came, too. We missed Greta who had to work. It was a blast around the fire with lots of food and stories to tell. You can keep up with the wilderness adventures of the Alaska Olsons online here.

The first fish of the season was this lowly 18″ northern pike caught by John’s buddy Jonathan Redfearn. And here they are as a 21st century Tom and Huck on their raft.
