New Toy for the Lake
After looking all over the country, literally, we found just the right boat at Elmendorf AFB on Craig’s List. It’s a 2007 Bayliner 185 in great condition and able to pull lots of kids on tubes. Now we just need to support our gasoline habit.
Our New Dock in Progress
Originally uploaded by lynna2611.
Just back from a few days in Willow. We’ve got the dock framed in and ready for decking. It was a busy few days. Ice is still covering most of the lake and thick enough to walk on but not for long. We finished this part just in time.
Many thanks to Matt for the nifty tool for the jack hammer. It made driving the posts fast and easy.
Total items dropped in the lake:
- Hammer
Ratchet wrench (6 times)
Tape measure (twice)
4′ level
Drill bits (two)
Many nuts & washers
Total items retrieved from lake bottom with magnet on a string:

Spring Project
Well, our friends near and far may remember that on New Year’s Eve we burned the dock in the annual lake bonfire. It was a very fun evening; the house was full of great friends and food. Snowmachine conditions were practically perfect. It was a memorable weekend. Here’s a flashback to the lamest start to a bonfire ever…Who knew gasoline and ziploc bags could be so festive?
Now that we’re dockless and summer is coming it’s time to start on the new project. It’s going to be big and beautiful and I can already see myself laying out in the sun. Wait, what’s that faint buzzing sound; perhaps the very long, cold winter will inhibit the mosquitoes.
A Very Cold Willow
Much of the Thanksgiving weekend we were in Willow at the cabin. We’ve had an exceptionally cold November and it continues with little snow to give relief. Continuous bitter cold makes folks like us scoff and sneer at all this global warming talk. In fact, deep down we wish it were true.
John’s pals, Jonathan and Daniel, joined us. Their folks are in San Diego for the week and were so thoughtful they called us from their hotel overlooking the jacuzzi and beach and surfers. Our thermometer read -15 degrees, theirs 80.
So, the boys made brief dashes outside to play then back inside for food, hot chocolate and continuous games of Risk, spoons, and bologna. They were a great help Saturday afternoon when we cut, split and stacked firewood until the mixed gas ran out. The lake is frozen at least a foot thick but very little snow, mostly frost. Not enough for riding snowmachines.
A very relaxing stay with plenty of time sitting, gazing at the fire, snoozing and reading. We are really looking forward to the Holidays when we can spend the week after Christmas there. It’s usually nonstop visitors and plenty of food and snowmachines and a bonfire.
